June 1989 was the month that included events such as:

​Following weeks of student-led protests demanding political and economic reforms, the Chinese government declared martial law. Overnight between June 3 and June 4, the People's Liberation Army entered Beijing with tanks and troops, opening fire on unarmed civilians. The crackdown resulted in hundreds to thousands of deaths and led to strict Western sanctions
